What is half marathon world championships?

The IAAF World Half Marathon Championships is a biennial road running competition organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The championship race distance is exactly half the distance of a full marathon, which is 21.0975 km or 13.1094 miles.

The first IAAF World Half Marathon Championships was held in 1992 in South Shields, United Kingdom. Since then, the event has been held in different cities around the world. The most recent edition took place in Gdynia, Poland in 2020.

The championship attracts elite runners from around the world and is considered one of the most prestigious events in half marathon running. The competition is open to both men and women and features individual and team races.

Over the years, Kenya has dominated the event with their runners winning both the men's and women's titles several times. Other countries that have performed well at the World Half Marathon Championships include Ethiopia, Great Britain, and Japan.
